He Is Our Peace

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
—Romans 5:1

Here we have peace with God instead of confusion from sin.
This comes when we accept Christ as Savior and Lord, and receive eternal life.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

Here is the peace of God.

God’s peace, God’s holy quietness, comes into the heart of the newborn in Christ.

It is a peace we cannot understand. Jesus is that peace.
“For He Himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14).

This is perhaps the greatest blessing that can come to the human heart.

Peace means utter quietness and rest. It is the rest of faith.

We are no longer afraid of the judgment. We are no longer afraid of death or what man can do to us.

We are not afraid of Satan. We know that he is conquered. We know that we rule over him. We know that he, and his works, are beneath our feet in Christ.

This is the peace that Jesus spoke of in the Gospel of John: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you” (John 14:27).

The disciples could not help but recognize how differently Jesus accepted the cross and its suffering than the thieves did who were crucified with Him.

They could not help but notice how utterly quiet, peaceful, and restful He was in the judgment hall of Pilate.

So when He says, “My peace I leave with you,” at once, our heart reaches out for it.

We are surrounded by Pilate’s judgment halls everywhere. The scourge of tongues and the bitterness of the world mind confronts us everywhere.

We need this peace.

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
