Empowering

Jesus was not led into the wilderness to be vicariously tempted for us, but was tested in order to be entrusted by the Father with the fullness of power.

Jesus returned from the Jordan where He was baptized in water (as the author and finisher of our faith, His life was an example of our walk with God), the Spirit of God came upon him, and The Fathers voice out of heaven said “this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”

The first test concerning his identity was independence, the independent use of power. Would Jesus turn the stone into bread because He was hungry and needed food? No! He laid down His divinity, and allowed the Father through the Spirit to live through Him. He lived by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of the Father. The Father did not say turn the stone into bread, so he didn’t.

The second test concerning His identity was to prove who he was, through the power of the angels assigned to Him.

The third test was idolatry, putting anything before God including His blessings and receiving authority and glory instead of giving God all the glory and worshiping Him.

Jesus went into the wilderness full of the Spirit and came out of the wilderness in the Power of the Spirit because He passed the test and began His ministry and instantly his fame went abroad in the earth.

Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted (root-examined) of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this authority will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

14 And Jesus returned in the power (miracle working power) of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 tAnd he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

There is an anointing of Power; this is not the inward anointing of the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27). We see this anointing in (Acts 10:38) which is a different Greek word which is an external anointing where the Spirit gently rests upon you.

This anointing touches our spirit and our soul and our body, it is an anointing that comes over us, and we have to prove ourselves faithful for God to grant us this anointing.
