Your destiny has to be contended for

The heathen concept of fatalism is not a Christian concept, nor is it the truth. This fatalistic approach to life states that we are not in control and whatever will be will be.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Cooperation with God and obedience to His commands along with contending in the spiritual realm for your destiny are required in order for you to fulfill your purpose and calling in the earth.

Satan will Oppose your Destiny

We see a battle between light and darkness, good and evil, emerging right from the beginning in Eden.

After the fall of Adam and Eve, God said to Satan that the seed of the woman would crush his head.

GENESIS 3:15 15. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. When Satan heard this pronouncement against himself, a battle of enormous proportions began to emerge. This battle continues down to the present day.

Satan now knew that a person, the seed of the woman, would one day destroy his authority and power. From the line of Eve, someone would be born who would destroy his power. Satan would do everything in his own power to prevent that seed from being born.

1 JOHN 3:8 8. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Soon, two sons are born to Adam and Eve: Cain and Abel. It became clear that a godly line would emerge from the line of Abel.

God did not accept Cain’s offering (Gen 4:4-7). Cain became angry and killed Abel; Satan thought the line was broken or corrupted so the seed could not come forth, but God provided a substitute for Abel; another son was born called Seth, which means substitute.

Now, two streams develop in the earth – the Cainites and the Sethites, a godly line and an ungodly line.

Satan now knew that the godly seed of the woman which would be his destruction would come from the line of the Sethites.

As the line of Seth multiplied, it would become difficult for Satan to know which family the seed would come from. Satan would have to wipe out the entire line. How could Satan do this?

Satan knew the ways of God and the principles of the justice of God. He knew that if he corrupted the whole of the human race to a certain level than God would have to destroy them.

Genesis chapter 6 describes how Satan sought to corrupt the whole race of men on the earth. Fallen angels were sent to corrupt the women in the earth by overshadowing or having sex with them. As a result, giants were born on the earth. These were giants both in size and wickedness.

Read Genesis 6:1-7. The wickedness of man was so great in the earth that God said He would destroy them from off the face of the earth.

GENESIS 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

There we have it – it seemed like Satan had won – except for one single verse of Scripture: GENESIS 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

God found one man with a righteous family. We know the story; everyone was wiped out except one family through which the righteous line would continue on in the earth. Satan had failed but the battle would continue.

Whenever a prophetic word concerning your destiny is pronounced over you, a battle will begin over your life to stop that word from coming to pass.

Satan will do anything to abort that which has been spoken over you.

You will have to contend for your destiny. You have to keep your life pure, clean and consecrated to God.

There will be a battle over you and that which God has purposed for you.

After the flood, the population of the earth increased again and the line was lost, buried somewhere in the mass of humanity. Then God revealed where the line was flowing. God called a man by the name of Abram and stated that through him all the nations of the earth would be blessed.

GENESIS 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee: 2. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Satan picked up on this and knew the line would flow through Abram. So now what does Satan do?

GENESIS 16:1 1. Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. Satan afflicted Sarah and she could not have children. That would stop the line from carrying on. We know the story: God healed Sarah, and Isaac was born. Now, Satan afflicts Isaac’s wife so she too cannot have children (Gen 25:21).

So, God heals Rebecca, Isaacs’s wife. Rebecca becomes pregnant with twins. One of these twins would have the privilege of being chosen by God to carry on the line. God chooses Jacob to be the one through whom the line flows. This means that Jacob would have to be the firstborn, having the rights that come with that position. Satan now sets up a conflict in the womb of Rebecca:

GENESIS 25:22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, if it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the Lord. 23. And the Lord said unto her, two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. God in His wisdom saw the struggle that Satan would set up regarding which of the twins would be born first, so in this case, God simply changed the rules, “the law of the firstborn” (See Rom 9:10-13).

GENESIS 25:25. And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau 26. And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bares them. The battle raged even as Rebecca was giving birth; the twins fought over who would be born first.

Satan will contest your destiny and any word from God spoken over your life. Satan will seek to disqualify you in any way he can.

You came into this world with a mission, a purpose to fulfill, and now you must be vigilant to fulfill that mission. You must fight for it. You must exercise faith and trust in God to bring you into all that God has purposed for you.

2 TIMOTHY 4:7-8 7. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:

Meditate on these things.

Be aware you will be contested over your destiny. Ask God to help keep you alert to Satan’s inroads into your life. Close all doors to sin and disobedience. Believe that God is able to keep you. Believe you are quite able to fulfill your destiny.

The Battle Continues

The battle over your destiny is intense and requires constant vigilance and faith in order to keep your destiny flowing in the will of God. After the battle over Rebecca, Isaac’s wife, the line was somewhat obscured again. Jacob, Isaac’s son, grows to be a man and soon has a clan of about seventy people under him. Now, God in his foresight allows Joseph to be sold as a slave and carried away to Egypt.

Satan’s only option is to wipe out the entire clan; he causes a great famine across the land. Jacobs’s clan is at the point of annihilation through the famine. Now Joseph who was sold into slavery becomes prime minister of Egypt. We know the story: Jacob with his entire clan comes down to Egypt and Satan is defeated again.

The next crisis comes in the time of Moses. Satan, in his desperation, has Pharaoh make a decree that all male babies are to be murdered. This would effectively cause Israel to disappear from the earth within two generations. Yet through God’s providence, Moses is saved as a baby and 80 years later returns in the power of God to Egypt, stepping into his full destiny. Moses leads the children of Israel out of Egypt.

You always reap what you sow; all the firstborn of the Egyptians throughout the land of Egypt died. We need to keep short accounts with God, or we will reap what we sow. A constant attitude of repentance, keeping our hands clean is very important to abort reaping evil consequences in our lives.

In the Sanskrit language, they have a word for this: karma, which literally means “Come back”. What we sow will come back to haunt us or bless us; the choice is ours.

Over two million people left Egypt. Through whom was that righteous line flowing now? Many years later, God once again reveals where the line is:

GENESIS 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Through this Scripture God reveals where the righteous line is: from now on it will run through the tribe of Judah and more specifically, though the royal line of the kings of Judah.

From now on, the kings of Judah would become an endangered species. Over and over again they were killed off or became corrupt, thus disqualifying themselves, and so the battle raged on.

The crises came in 2 Chronicles 22 :10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah. Satan inspired an evil woman to destroy all the royal seed of the house of Judah. This was a major crisis in the purposes of God to crush the head of Satan as decreed in the Garden of Eden. Satan’s attempt to kill all the royal seed was thwarted by God was one step ahead of Satan:

2 CHRONICLES 22:11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not. 12. And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

The whole fulfillment of the prophetic word pronounced in Eden hung in the balance on one tiny child. This child was hidden for six years. He would become king. It is very important that we have a disciplined prayer life, praying much in the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit can use these inspired utterances to keep ahead of the enemy’s plans to abort God’s purposes in our lives. We don’t have the space to trace this continuing battle through the rest of the Scriptures. The book of Esther describes another crisis in which Satan attempted to annihilate the entire nation of Israel. Finally, a young girl is visited by the Angel Gabriel. Mary gives birth to the promised Seed, and they call his name Jesus. Herod proclaims a decree that all male children under a certain age are to be killed. This was Satan’s last desperate attempt to stop the fulfillment of the word spoken against him in Eden. Finally, Jesus dies on the cross and cries and IT IS FINISHED!

With this, redemption sprang forth as an everlasting gift to mankind. The Seed of the woman crushed the head of the serpent.

Your destiny is important. It was given to you before the world was made and it plays an integral part in the plan and purposes of God for this planet.

There is another seed coming forth in the earth. This seed is critical to the final defeat of Satan and the ushering in of the physical Kingdom of God in this earth.

REVELATION 12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. 3. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. 5, And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

The fact that you are alive in this day is significant. You could have been born in the dark ages, but God saw fit to send you to this earth for the final consummation of the ages.

You have a part to play; it is very important that you feel and understand your mission in this hour.

Satan will try to disqualify you, hinder you, and discourage you. Don’t give up! God will change the rules, if necessary, in order to get you through. God’s grace is able to get you through.

Keep a right spirit; hold no unforgiveness in your heart. Seek, knock, ask and pray. God hears, and although God has no favorites, there are those who find favor with God and secure His grace to carry them through.

ROMANS 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and jointheirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together 18. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

These Scriptures tell us that creation is waiting for the sons of God to come forth. What does this mean? Who are these sons of God? There is an interesting verse of Scripture in Isaiah 53.

ISAIAH 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Isaiah chapter 53 is a very familiar passage of Scripture that is prophetic of the crucifixion of Jesus. Notice verse 10. It says that He (Jesus) shall see His seed and this will cause His days to be prolonged in the earth.

Jesus never married, He had no natural children, yet Isaiah 53:10 tells us He would see His seed and prolong His days on the earth through this seed.

Psalm 22 is a messianic Psalm, meaning that this Psalm is prophetic of the crucifixion of Jesus and His redemptive work on Calvary.

Note verse 1of Psalm 22 – the words which Jesus would speak while He was hanging on the cross: My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Then verse 30 says this: A seed shall serve Him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

In the days of Jesus, it was a shameful thing for a man to die without having any children to carry on his family seed. Yet the Bible says that Jesus would see His seed. In Mathew chapter one it states that there were 42 generations from Abraham to Jesus (Matt 1:17). However, if you carefully count the generations as described in Mathew 1, you will find that there are only 41, not 42 generations. There is a missing generation; where is that generation?

Psalms 22:30 gives us the answer: A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. Then, Psalm 22 goes on to say: PSALMS 22:31 They (this seed) shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

A seed will be born, and it will be accounted to Him (Jesus) for a generation, and this seed, this generation of people, will declare what the Lord has done; they will declare salvation to the entire world.

This 42nd generation is about to come forth in the earth in its fullness. There is a seed coming forth in the earth which Satan fears for this seed spells the demise of his rule in the earth. Psalm 102 gives us more insight into this: PSALMS 102:13, 16, 18, 28 13. Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. 16. When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory. 18. This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. 28. The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

This tells us that a day is coming when God will favor His people in a special way. The coming forth of this generation, the 42nd generation, has a set time. The whole of creation is waiting for the coming forth of this seed, this generation, in the earth. There will be a generation of people on the earth in the end of the age who will truly manifest the life, power, and nature of Jesus.

This generation, the seed of the Lord Jesus, will move throughout the earth in such power and glory, bringing a living Christ to a dying world. They will prolong the days of Jesus in the earth; the world will again see Jesus walking this earth in His seed, His sons. The best is yet to come.

ROMANS 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

HEBREWS 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Satan is insanely jealous of God’s sons in this earth. Satan could never be a son of God, and he will do everything in his power to prevent these fully matured sons of God from coming forth. They spell his demise, they will usher in a new age of joy, peace, and love, and Satan will be bound for a thousand years. God will never be satisfied until He sees the image of His son Jesus in us.

HEBREWS 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

God wants many sons like His Son Jesus, who become His bride.

In all things Jesus is our example; it is His purpose that we become like Him.

All of life’s difficulties, disappointments and heartaches serve to fashion us more and more into His image.

God is love, and as we become love, we start to be conformed to His likeness, for that’s what God is – love. It is not the circumstances of life that change us, but how we respond to them.

Hard times can either make you bitter or better – the choice is yours. We prove ourselves by the responses we have to life’s adverse circumstances.

ROMANS 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

You are the Lord’s seed in the earth; this is a part of your destiny – to this end, you were born in this generation.

This is a great privilege to be born in the earth at this time, a time when this 42nd generation will come forth as the seed of the Lord in the earth.

ROMANS 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Religion tells us what to do and what not to do. True Christianity tells us what to become and how to become it.

This statement places religion and true Christianity poles apart; however, the church continues to tell us what not to do, and conversely, what to do, placing an ideal of behavior before us which most find impossible to conform to.
