The goal of all the working of the Holy Spirit is to make us like Jesus in everything. A major part of our experience with him is that we become astonished at our new man in Christ. We are a new creation, all the old things are passed away, everything has become new, and all things are of God, from God-2 Corinthians 5: 17-18.
One of the most enjoyable facets of this radiant life is that we should never be intimidated by our circumstances because we are too busy being fascinated by Jesus!
Nothing makes us fearful, timid, or discouraged. Our gladness can never be subdued. We have an innate cheerfulness that comes from knowing that Jesus has already overcome that which has been held against us.
In this life we are preoccupied with who Jesus is for us in every situation. We joyfully depend upon the brilliant Holy Spirit who is a genius at life in Christ. We exemplify the good news. The rhythm of our life is solely concerned with our hearts and minds becoming captivated by Jesus. In every situation we are attracted to his fullness, and held by it until we have an experience, which empowers us into renewal. We are gripped in our attention, delighted, enthralled, and overpowered by all that Jesus is for us. Astonishment at who Jesus is for us is the key to being overwhelmed by the goodness of God. We overcome evil with good. Our privilege is to know only Jesus as the answer to all things in this life. Astonishment then becomes a way of life for us.
What we are doing, is we are practicing a way of being astonished. The enemy cannot penetrate a clear sense of wonder. When the enemy fell from heaven, he lost everything, and can now be defeated by anyone who lives in heaven’s atmosphere. Astonishment is the atmosphere of heaven and the only environment that makes sense for us here on earth.
