When our mind is renewed, it is because we have accepted that God has all the best thoughts, and we want them too! To be renewed in the spirit of our mind (Ephesians 4: 23) is to listen to the voice of God in our heart relationship, and then establish that as our way of thinking. Worship, rejoicing and giving thanks are the entry points for wisdom and revelation to come and take up residence. When we whine and complain we cannot receive the deep truth that sets us free. Self-pity guarantees that we will believe a lie and remain powerless.
The mind of Christ is compelling in its power to promote the presence of God to us. We are empowered to take our thought life to the next level of experiencing God. Our thoughts are going to make us or break us. They will be our divine advantage or the place of stumbling. We must learn to think brilliantly, creatively and with favor. Fortunately, our helper, the incomparable Holy Spirit, is a genius at amazing thinking. Part of his role in empowering us to become Christlike is to teach us the mind of Christ -1 Corinthians 2: 16. We must not miss the opportunities to think better, bigger, and more boldly.
The way we think rules our life. Our mindset can either be a fortress for the enemy or a temple for the living God. One will imprison our spirituality; the other will set us free to govern our circumstances. Before we commit any act good or bad, we have already entertained some thinking for a period of time. Our thinking in this situation will either take us up a level or take us down by degrees. Our experience of God cannot develop if we want new but think old.
There’s only one thought to have in any situation. That is the one that Jesus is having about our identity in our circumstances. In our life situations we are primarily challenged to see like the Lord; think like him; and speak into our circumstances the words of release, power and favor. Only when these three things are present and working can our behavior change to become like him in our actions.
If all you’re thinking has brought you to a place that you don’t like, it’s time for a better thought. Right now, the Holy Spirit, your helper is inside of you. Ask him something!
