Worship the Lord with a spirit of anticipation. Let the Spirit fill you again and again. About the time that your heart says, “This is all I can receive from the Lord today,” answer, “No, that’s a lie. I can have twice as much.” Then start all over again, anticipating a double portion.
When you seek the Lord, it is very necessary to establish a rhythm, with a constant change. This may be a little key for you. When we are singing, the Spirit increases up to a point, but after a while the loudness takes over and then the Spirit diminishes. When you find that happening, then be silent before the Lord, and the Spirit will continue to move even heavier. After reaching the place of silence, go back and sing again. I wish the people were so obedient to the worship leader that he could just snap his finger, and find everyone immediately either singing and worshiping, or standing silent before the Lord.
It isn’t that we want to make puppets out of you; that is not the idea. Sometimes when the Lord moves, the people are a bit dull of hearing and not as sensitive as they should be.
The Spirit changes, and they do not change with the Spirit. Then they wonder why they are not breaking through to what they were believing for in the service. Be sensitive. The Spirit woos you and draws you out.
Sometimes you have to shake loose every restraint. Other times, when the restraints are off, you just stand and drink and drink.
You may be too absorbed in talking, “O God, give me a word; O God, lead me.” Close your mouth for a while and listen. It works both ways; there must be a crying to the Lord, but then stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. There is a time to stand still and a time to move.
Restrain every soulish reaction; otherwise you will enter into a soulish realm. Only in the realm of your spirit will you be constantly led by the Holy Spirit.
Breath with an openness—a desperate openness of reaching out and drawing. Open your mouth wide for the rain to fall. Let the Lord fill you. Everything that you have need of is yours. It is flowing; just draw it. You don’t have to ask; just think about it. It is all yours.
