A covenant in His blood

And as they were eating (the Passover feast), Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins. Matthew 26:26–28.

What did He mean by my blood of the covenant? When the Bible was first printed it was divided into the Old Covenant and the New Covenant; later they followed the language of the book of Hebrews by calling it the Old Testament and the New Testament. This gives good understanding of what the two embrace.

When the children of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, they journeyed through the wilderness and came to Mt. Sinai where God gave them the law. A covenant was written there as God gave it to Moses. It was written down very carefully and afterwards sacrifices were made. The blood was caught as the sacrifice was slain, then hyssop was used to sprinkle the blood over the roll of the covenant, or Old Testament. The hyssop was then dipped in the blood and sprinkled over the people. This sprinkling of the blood ratified and made binding the Old Covenant, the covenant of the law that could not bring remission of sins but only judgment for sins.

Jesus gave the wine of the Passover to the disciples saying, “Divide it among yourselves; this is the new covenant of My blood”; meaning it no longer called for judgment, like the Old Covenant, but it was a covenant of mercy and truth that was signed by His own precious blood of which we too are partakers. It covers our hearts to bring remission of sins and justification, to open up the new and living way into the Holy of Holies, into the very presence of God our Father.

This blood is very precious, and when we partake of it, we do so in faith. When we partake of the Lord’s Supper, that precious blood is a continual cleansing, a continual covering for our sins. To be under a covenant of perpetual blessing and care. If we walk under it, happy and blessed are we.

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin. I John 1:7. It cleanses us from all sin. It doesn’t say that you must repent of sins or that you need to be aware of them. It speaks of those involuntary mistakes of which you may be completely ignorant. As we walk along we’re walking in the light, and we have fellowship one with another.

It’s a new day, a new family, a new people, new brothers, and new sisters. That fellowship is shared with another great blessing: the blood cleanseth us from all sin. There is a constant, perpetual cleansing because we’re walking in the light under the covenant of His blood. When you come to partake of Communion, you can’t possibly think of all the things you’ve done wrong. You don’t have enough paper to write all the mistakes you’ve made, stumblings, errors of judgment, many things of that nature. You don’t know most of them; but one thing you can be assured of, you’re partaking of the covenant of His blood. This is My blood of the covenant.

Because you’re walking in the light and your hearts are open, the blood is cleansing you from all sin. Hold that in your heart and mind. God is taking care of a lot of things that He could list for you that you don’t even know about, even the idle words you have spoken. What about the spirit in you? Do you have bitterness, a wrong spirit? People manifest something in their spirits continually, one way or the other. His blood cleanses us from all sin. Walk in the light as He is in the light. There is nothing greater than to believe God for the precious thing He has for us.

Satan hates the teaching on the blood of Jesus Christ. In the early days of the Pentecostal outpouring, the people came up against the power of Satan, and they knew there was only one way they could overcome him; by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:11). They would plead the power and the precious efficacy of the blood. They positioned themselves completely under the protection of that precious blood of Jesus Christ.

That’s exactly what we’re doing in this walk with God. Every time we receive the Communion of the Lord we are opening our hearts to the new covenant in His blood. It’s a covenant of victory. By it and by the word of our testimony we will overcome all the power of the devil. We will rise, through that precious blood, cleansed from all sin, to a place of no defeat within, and where no defeat can come against us. We walk by the precious blood and the perfect victory of Jesus Christ.
