A thorn in the flesh

If you think you got problems, let us take a look at the life of the Apostle Paul. In this writing he is defending his Apostleship to the Corinthian church.

We are reading from the Kenneth S West- New Testament expanded translation.

2 Corinthians 11:22 Hebrews are they? I also. Israelites are they? I also. Offspring of Abraham are they? I also. Servants of Christ are they? I am speaking as one who is beside himself, I more [in a higher degree than they], in labors to the point of exhaustion more abundantly than they, in prisons more abundantly than they, in stripes inflicted by being whipped, beyond measure, in danger of death, often.

From the Jews five times I received forty stripes less one. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the sea. In journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from those of my own race, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in an uninhabited region, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren, in labor and travail, in sleepless nights often, in hunger and thirst, in need of food often, in cold and in lack of sufficient clothing; apart from the things I just enumerated is this, the pressure, day after day, namely, my anxiety for all the assemblies ( the churches).

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is being made to stumble, and I am not indignant? Since it is a necessity in the nature of the case for me to boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness.

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus knows, He who is the Eulogized One forever, that I am not lying. In Damascus the ethnarch under Aretas the king kept a constant guard over the city of the Damascenes in an effort to apprehend me, and through a window I was let down in a rope basket through [a window in] the wall and escaped out of his hands.

2 Corinthians 12:6 For, if I should desire to boast, I shall not be foolish, for I shall speak the truth. But I am abstaining [from boasting] lest any man consider me above that which he sees me to be or above that which he hears from me.

And with respect to the superabundance of the revelations, in order that I may not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to the end that he might constantly maltreat me lest I be exalted overmuch. Concerning this three times I begged the Lord that he might depart from me. And He has said to me, and His declaration still stands, My grace is enough for you, for power is moment by moment coming to its full energy and complete operation in the sphere of weakness. Therefore, most gladly will I the rather boast in my weaknesses in order that the power of the Christ [like the Shekinah Glory in the Holy of Holies of the Tent of Meeting] may take up its residence in me [working within me and giving me help].-

Wherefore I am well content in weaknesses, in insults, in necessities, in persecutions, and in circumstances under which I am subject to extreme pressure on behalf of Christ, for when I am weak, then I am filled with ability and power.

What was Paul’s throne in the flesh? We’ll the Bible clearly tell’s, unless of course you can’t read.

It was a messenger of Satan. The word messenger means an Angel.

We are not talking about demon spirits here who oppress people, who cause sickness and disease, cause blindness and deafness, spirits that cause you to be a cripple, we are not talking about spirits of fear and lust and addiction.

We are talking about the Angel that was directly under Lucifer, the Dragon Himself. That angel was assigned over the region in which Paul was ministering.

These angel’s sit on thrones in the heavenly place, and they don’t even like hanging around the earth, they give orders to spirits on the earth that are under them.

But Satan said to this angel, this man is walking in the Authority of the Lord Jesus Christ himself and turning my world upside down, you stop him, you kill him, don’t give the job to anyone else, you do it.

Now this Angel couldn’t get inside of Paul, Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit himself, so he had to stir up trouble through the human rulers and kings on the earth, He had to stir up trouble through the religious leaders of the day.

He had to control the weather, cause him to be drown in the sea, cause him to die of starvation.

He had to cause these religious leads to whip him, beat him with rods, get them to  try and stone him to death, and I believe they did, but God raised him from the dead.

So the angel had to get the governor of the land under the king to apprehend him, put this man in prison. But he was able to be lowered down through a window and escape him.

Beside’s all this Paul says I have the care of the people in the churches coming upon me day by day. The word care has the idea of distraction. These are prayer burdens, you feel what is coming against the members of the body of Christ you are associated with, and they are like pressures, you experience what that person is going through, and it is a call to intercede, and it is like not now Lord, I don’t want to be distracted from the ministry of the Word. These burdens don’t lift until you pray through, and you get the note of victory, and the person you are interceding for gets totally free.
