Christ Our Representative

I’m anticipating great things in the Lord. The thing that I’m anticipating now is that God is ready to meet His people in a new experience, a brand-new living experience.

We are coming into things that we have never walked in before, moving into things that we’ve never experienced before.

One verse of scripture to help you. Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 13, 14, and 15 and 16 if you’ll follow with me there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do having then a great high priest who hath passed through the heavens Jesus the Son of God let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help us in the time of need.

The whole key of everything that we have in Christ is based upon the fact that the human race has a representative. It has someone to plead its cause, someone to open the door, someone to stand making intercession, someone that has been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Someone that has passed through every human emotion, through every human temptation, through every human restriction.

I don’t believe that Jesus was without restriction. When he was born of the Virgin, I’m sure that all the prerogatives of deity were laid aside in order that he could meet everything as a man.

And the miracle of this would not be God bottled up in flesh running through the motions. But God self-limited.

You say, well, God’s all powerful. He can do anything. If he can do anything, then he can limit himself. And I think he laid aside, though he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor, as poor as any human being could be.

And He spoke of Himself as the Son of Man, and as the Son of Man in all points tempted like as we are.

The full force, the full venom, the full impact of everything that could come against Him came against Him, yet without sin.

And in the day of resurrection, the Scriptures say that it was fulfilled, thou art my beloved Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Begotten to a sonship entirely different coming up into a sonship like as the sonship that he holds before us.

And now he has resumed the glory that he had with the Father before the world was.

But he came, the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. They didn’t recognize him. In all points tempted like as we are. Who stands before the throne of God?

Oh, we say the Son of God in all of his glory. Yes, that’s true. And also a man. He was born into the human race. God incarnate into the human race, into a human form. What does that mean?

It means he bears that for eternity. His resurrection body, he held it out, handle and see, a spirit hath not flesh and bone, as you see me have.

What are we going to be like in eternity? Spirits floating around with mythical harps on a cloud? No. Flesh and bone also. He’ll fashion our bodies like unto His glorious body by the power whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself.

What does this mean to you when you come to partake of this blood on this body? Through that body, that’s the veil, the new and the living way to the Father. There’s one that stands there ever living to make intercession for you. There’s the human representative.

My little children, these things I write unto you that ye sin not. But if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father.

This is evidence of his humanity, he says to the Father, I was one of them. I’m the firstborn among many brethren. I’m the firstborn among many brethren.

A representative standing there pleading for you. That’s what makes communion a living thing, it is you’re partaking now of what He did in the flesh. You’re partaking of His body and of His flesh, that His life may come into you.

This is the way you feed and sustain a divine nature that is coming forth and developing within a human nature.

He’s your representative. This is the gospel. This is what Jesus Christ means to us. Our blessed Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Savior, our Lord, the Son of Man, our High Priest, the Lord of lords, the King of kings, the recipient of all the promises of the Father, all power, all authority in heaven and in earth in His hand.

Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Lord, we bless this word and we bless our hearts that prayerfully and in the Spirit right now we’ll come into that which you have for us.

Lord, if we have committed sin, we have an advocate with the Father. If we need help in time of need, we can find mercy, for we have a high priest who stands to intercede for us.

And Holy Father, we come into Thy presence to receive that help, to receive that blessing, to receive the joy that can flow into our lives now. Forgive us, cleanse us, and let us partake joyfully of this the body of Jesus Christ delivered up for us.

We bless it and break it in the name of the Lord, this which is to be distributed to the members of Christ’s body this day. Amen. Likewise, do we bless this cup, that it shall be to us the holy blood of a new covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ, made fresh and real for our need this very moment, applied to our heart to the full extremity of all our need. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
