Exhortation on transference

How tricky the enemy is with the imaginations and thoughts that he imposes upon people. How subtle is his deception when he convinces them that they are their thoughts. How people can labor along so defeated, because they have accepted as their own thought that which has been nothing more than a fiery dart of the enemy.

Whenever you have set your heart and dedicated yourself to walk with the Lord, and are committed to that walk and dedication, if there is a sudden reversal of that, until your emotion and attitude is absolutely opposed to the course that you were on before with all dedication, you know something is wrong. In all likelihood, it is not your thought, and you had better find out where it is coming from before you accept it as your own.

If you accept a thought that is attached with a deep emotion for any period of time as your own, it will become your own, until it is very deep within your own thought. But if you refuse it, and say, “Splithoof, that’s not mine, you can take that thought back to the pit with you, that isn’t my thinking, and I want no part of it”—the minute you do that, you will be surprised how you will retain by your choice, within the power of the Holy Spirit, the right to accept or reject a great deal of the thoughts and attitudes that come to wipe you out.
