In building our spirit we are walking on what is called the pathway of relationship which leads to deeper intimacy with God. A walk with God is a flow of the Spirit which flows from the inside of us where the presence of God is. To walk in the flow of the Spirit we yield to what God is directing us to do.
Revelation 320 Jesus said behold I am standing at the door and knocking. Open the door and let me in. so we first have to open our spirit to the Lord and let him fill us.
We open our spirit by joining it to His, by surrendering it to His lordship over it. We surrender control of our life, spirit, soul and body to be led by His Spirit. as the Spirit leads we follow, we are walking with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 6: 17But he that is joined (continuous repeated action- to glue, cleave, join together with) unto the Lord ( Master, Owner, controller) is (a state of being) one (to indicate the singularity of something, thus emphasizing that there is but one only, one and the same, not at variance with, in accord with) spirit.
When we join our spirit to the Lord, he fills it so that it becomes one spirit. This is a state of being, being one spirit with the Lord. Our spirit becomes one with the Lord because we surrender control of it to the Lord. We enter into a oneness with the Lord where we are being led by the Lord. The Lord then flows through our spirit into our soul where we are receiving his thoughts into our mind, his feelings into our emotions, vision or pictures into our imagination, his strength into our will.
We have to be before we can do. We have to become one spirit with the Lord, so that Christ can live through us. It is no longer I, but Christ who lives in me, we are one spirit.
Galatians 2: 20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in (intimate union, with the primary idea of rest) me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
If we do not join our spirit to the Lord, then our soul rules, when we are born-again and our spirit becomes alive to God then God comes to dwell in us and our spirit then starts to exercise its authority to rule, and often the soul doesn’t like that, so there’s often a tension and a battle to start with over who is in charge.
When we surrender the seat of government in our spirit to God and we invite him to be Lord of our lives, he then empowers us. But if we keep control of our lives, while we are in control then we have to do it ourselves.
So when we surrender, it is not giving up, it is embracing a whole new power, to change, to be transformed, to be who we were created to be by the father in eternity.
Our spirit needs spiritual exercise, so that our spirit can grow strong. We need to learn to build up our spirit, to grow our spirit, so our spirit is not this little thing on the inside of us, but our spirit expands all around us.
Hebrews 5:14 solid food is for the mature who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. So we can train our spiritual senses. We can train all the senses of our soul to be directed from our spirit so that we just know and can discern the realms of the spirit.
Now you cannot grow your spirit without actually training it. There are no shortcuts I cannot lay hands on you, nor can anybody else to get your spirit to grow.
So training exercises are really important, so we are going to do lots of exercises to build our spirit, now it’s like these exercises are not an end in themselves, they are just to get our spirit strong.
So a lot of the exercises were doing help us have a strong spirit so that we can have a spiritual lifestyle developed.
We develop our spirit, through fellowship with God, spending time with God in our spirit so we absorb God. Our spirit is like a sponge that draws the life of God,
We are changed through the exposure of our spirit with God’ Spirit, so just being around God is a fantastic thing to do, to be in his presence.
Speak, pray, and sing in tongues. One of the absolute keys to spiritual growth is exercising our spirit by speaking. When we are speaking in the spirit, we are exercising our spirit. We spend some time meditating on the word of God. Allowing the word of God to transform and change how we think by meditating on it.
Meditating visually, what you behold you become like. So let us fix our eyes on Jesus. We fix our eyes on those things that are above and then we will begin to become like that which we look at.
If you look at negative things all the time then you will become negative. If you focus on the truth and the positive things, then that will have a positive change in your life.
We learn to wait on the Lord, this is a difficult one for a lot of people. Be still and know Him, which means you going to stop trying and striving and struggling to do it, relax. Because when you relax your spirit is active and can connect up with all your soul senses much easier when our brainwaves slow down from beta to alpha then our spirit can connect and understand. When the brain is aroused and actively engaged in mental activities, it generates beta waves. These beta waves are of relatively low amplitude, and are the fastest of the four different brainwaves. … Alpha brainwaves are slower and higher in amplitude. Alpha waves occur when people feel relaxed and when the brain is in an idle state without concentrating on anything.
Alpha brain waves represent one pattern of electrical activity produced by the brain. The brain is made up of millions of neurons that use electrical signals to transmit information.
When groups of neurons fire together in a certain way they send signals to other groups of neurons, the resulting patterns are known as brain waves. These electrical patterns are associated with different types of activity in the brain as well as different states of consciousness.
Alpha waves usually occur when you are engaged in activities such as daydreaming, meditating, or practicing mindfulness. Research suggests that this type of brain wave may play a role in lowering stress, reducing anxiety, decreasing depression, and improving creative thinking.
When we shut our eyes, all our cognitive senses begin to slow down so that our spirit can engage. So developing the right side of our brain is a key. The right side of our brain is the creative part of us, where tongues and other things happen.
Praise, worship and adoration are a spiritual exercise. And when our spirit releases worship and praise and thanksgiving and adoration to God it gets stronger.
