Failure to comprehend that Jesus in himself brings a whole new type of Prophet and prophetic ministry into the earth-one that reflects the nature of God within a believer rather than the external legal structure that surrounded people in the Old Covenant. Law gives way to grace, mercy replaces judgment, goodness and kindness lead to repentance, the truth becomes a person within, and favor displaces performance. Prophecy that does not reflect the good news will not pass the test of authenticity.
When we are not sensitized to the nature of God in Christ, we are more likely to become super spiritual, overly intense and religious in life. There is a disconnect between God’s heart and the prophet’s mouth.
Failure to develop a lifestyle of celebration means that we become casual about rejoicing and thanksgiving. It often leads people into living in their circumstances rather than in relationship with Christ. Such people live off the anointing of other people.
People become poor in the prophetic because they do not develop the space that God has set aside for them In Christ. They have a greater passion for ministry than they do for intimacy. The end result is that we do things for the applause of man rather than the approval of God.
The biggest failing of most poor prophets is that they have been touched by God but not changed. They have settled for knowing truths about God without developing an ongoing experience of truth into a place of freedom and power. We fail to discover God in every circumstance and our prophesying is less significant as a result.
Undeveloped intention is a sign of childish behavior. It leads us into settling for measure and reveals a poverty spirit. Prophecy not founded on intimacy cannot produce confidence.
The thinking that prophecy is more important for guidance than a renewed mind often leads to a low level expression of the gift. Part of prophetic utterance is the realigning of people’s belief systems with the internal Christ.
When we cannot transform our own poor self-image, then we have no impartation to release. Being too restless to learn waiting on God means that our devotional relationship we’ll hit a ceiling and level off. True prophets make plans and set aside time and resources to upgrade their worship and intimacy.
