Beloved, I want to tell you about a night that changed everything I knew about the supernatural power of God. Picture this. I had just arrived in a strange town where I knew absolutely no one. A heartbroken young man had come to the house where I was staying, desperate because the woman he was going to marry was dying. The doctor was by her side, but could do nothing to help her. As I sat down to eat my dinner, this broken-hearted man walked through the door. Without hesitation, I went with him to a house where impossible circumstances were about to meet the almighty power of God. What happened next would not only transform that young woman’s life, but would shake an entire town and reveal a secret that most Christians never discover. You see, brethren, Jesus promised us in Acts 1:8, You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. But here’s what will shock you. The majority of believers never step into this supernatural dimension that’s already theirs by divine right. Here is what happened. As I walked into that house with the desperate young man, I was met at the door by a brokenhearted mother. Tears were streaming down her face. and you could see the anguish written across every feature. Her daughter was upstairs, suffering greatly from acute appendicitis, and the doctor had given up hope. The situation looked absolutely impossible. Death was knocking at the door. But here’s where it gets interesting. I looked at that grieving mother and said something that must have sounded absolutely impossible in the natural. Cheer up, show me the girl, take me to her. It will be all right in a minute or two. Can you imagine what that mother must have thought? Here was this stranger from England, speaking with such confidence about her dying daughter. But Church, I need you to understand something crucial about what happened next. This wasn’t presumption speaking. This wasn’t human confidence or positive thinking. This was holy boldness. a divine position where a person has such knowledge of God that he knows God will not fail him. The Spirit of the Lord had come upon me with power for service and power in service. Glory be to God. They took me upstairs to where the young woman lay in bed, writhing in agony from the acute appendicitis. Her face was pale, her body was trembling, and you could see she was fighting for every breath. The room was heavy with the presence of death and despair. But I looked at her, and oh, what happened next will amaze you. I said with absolute authority, ‘It will be all right in a minute or two.’ Then I spoke directly to that condition with the voice of the Holy Spirit. ‘Come out!’ And instantly, glory to God, she was completely healed. Not gradually, not over time, but instantly. The color returned to her face, the pain vanished, and life flooded back into her body. You might be wondering what else happened in that town. Here’s what will amaze you. They had built a new meeting house there, a beautiful building that was supposed to house their growing congregation. But, beloved, that meeting house had never been filled to capacity. They had dedicated it, they had prayed over it, but the crowds had never come. But after this miracle, after the demonstration of God’s mighty power, everything changed. The leader of that assembly, filled with faith and holy boldness himself, stood up and said, I am going to prophesy that there will be so many people. Our place won’t be able to hold them. And glory to God, that’s exactly what happened. The building that had sat partially empty was now packed to overflowing. The most powerful moment was yet to come. Over the next several days and weeks, God moved through that town in a way that defied all natural explanation. Over 200 people, men, women, children, were healed in that place. 200 miracles. 200 demonstrations of God’s mighty power. Can you say amen? Brothers and sisters, let me tell you something that’s crucial for you to understand. It wasn’t Smith Wigglesworth doing these miracles. I was nothing more than a vessel, a temple through which the Holy Spirit could work. 10, The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does the works. Just think of it, how wonderful it is when the Holy Spirit comes and takes possession of you and speaks through you just the things that are needed. Now here’s something that will revolutionize your understanding of God’s power. Some people always ask me, Brother Wigglesworth, do these things last? Is this thing permanent? Let me answer that question with a testimony that will settle it once and for all. Praise God! His truth never fails to last. It goes on lasting. Years after I left that town, I received a letter (you need to hear about this letter) from Albany, Oregon, which is about seventy miles south of Portland. The person who wrote hadn’t contacted me since I had visited there years before. But this letter ran like this: Do you remember my taking you to my wife’s brother, who had lost all power of reason? and everything. This man had been completely bound by alcohol. The power of the devil had taken such hold of him that he had lost his mind, lost his family, lost everything that mattered. But when the power of God touched him, everything changed. The letter continued, My brother-in-law has been perfectly whole ever since and has not tasted alcohol. Not for a few days. not for a few months, but for years. That’s the lasting power of God Almighty. But here’s where I need to share something with you that most Christians never understand, and this is critical. This kind of holy boldness doesn’t come from human courage or positive thinking. You cannot have holy boldness unless you know God. Do not attempt to exercise it unless you know Him. This is not something you can fake or manufacture through your own effort. Daniel would never have survived the lion’s den if he had not known God intimately. What did the king say? He said, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions? And Daniel answered, O king, live forever. My guard sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me. You’ll see why this scripture makes perfect sense when you understand that victory occurs at the moment you open the door of your heart to believing. The mouths of those lions were shut when Daniel was in the den, yes, but in another sense, they were shut even before that. They were shut the moment the decree forbidding prayer was signed. and Daniel chose to trust in God to deliver him. Let me tell you something else that happened that shows you the importance of finding your place in the Holy Spirit. There is a dear woman who lives at my house and who looks after my affairs. She perpetually makes herself a real slave servant, always working, always serving, always giving. I often think she does so much that is not even needed. That’s just her disposition, you see. Now, We’ve had many people in our meetings whom God has been blessing, and they’ve gone out to speak for him in different places. This woman thought she ought to do the same thing. We had received many invitations for people to come and speak, and she accepted one of these invitations. But, beloved, when the time came, she looked so timid, so burdened. She said she had to lead this service, but you could see the weight crushing her. I got up with the needed boldness and set to work to strip away what was causing this timidity. Why should she be carrying a burden that God never intended for her to carry? With her heart full, she went out and found someone else to lead the meeting. And instantly, instantly, she found relief. She came back to the house with her face absolutely beaming. What’s up? I asked her, she said with such joy. I’ve found relief. The burden was completely gone. You see, church, some people think that just because they’ve been baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire, they automatically have to go and be preachers. It’s a pity, it’s a thousand pities, that it is so. It’s good that such a desire is in your heart, but it may not be God’s purpose for you. If you would get to know your place in the Holy Spirit, it would save you from so many struggles and burdens and would relieve the whole situation. Now let me share something that will transform your understanding of supernatural power. The theme I want you to grasp today is power for service and power in service. We are no longer groping around for something unclear. We are speaking of things we know and testifying to things we have seen. We are standing on the rock, which is Christ, the Living Word. 8 declares, You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Jesus lived in the knowledge of that power because the Spirit of the Lord was upon him. The Bible reveals that we have come into a new order where Christ is the whole substance, and man is but the body or clay. 19 tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Within this temple, a living principle is laid down, the word of the living God. It is formed in us, and it is a thousand times mightier than the self in thought, language, activity, and movement. 32 proclaims, the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. The Holy Spirit has come with one definite purpose: to reveal to us the Father and the Son in all their different branches of helpfulness to humanity. The Spirit has come to display almighty power, so that the weak may be made strong. in this baptism of the Holy Spirit there is a holy boldness that stands unflinchingly on what the Word of God says perfect love and perfect knowledge of God brings us into a state where we have no fear as 1 John 4:18 teaches us we enter a new order in which Christ is working in us and bringing every thought into subjection as 2 Corinthians 10:5 reveals Luke 11:13 promises that if we ask God for the Holy Spirit, he will give him. But here’s what’s crucial: the Holy Spirit is given to those who obey. 49, Tarry until you are endued with power from on high. The baptism of the Holy Spirit in my life has been like a river flowing on, with the tide rising higher and higher. Listen to me carefully, beloved. If God could use a simple man like me to heal the dying and bring revival to an entire town, he can use you to do the same and greater works. But here’s what I’ve discovered. Most Christians will never operate in this supernatural power because they refuse to take the one step that separates the ordinary believers from those who walk in holy boldness. The majority of believers struggle to step out in faith when God calls them to pray for the impossible. They want to see the miracle first, then they’ll believe. But that’s not how holy boldness works. You must believe first, then you’ll see the manifestation. Church, I want to challenge you with something that most Christians avoid. You must stop being satisfied with a powerless Christianity that looks nothing like what Jesus demonstrated. Too many believers are content to sing about God’s power on Sunday, but never expect to see it operate through their lives during the week. This is not optional for serious believers. You have been baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire for a purpose, not just to feel good, but to demonstrate the Kingdom of God with signs, wonders, and miracles. Most Christians think that just because they’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit, they automatically know their place and calling. But you must find your place in the Holy Spirit, and it will save you from struggles, burdens, and confusion. I challenge you today, stop making excuses for why God’s power doesn’t operate through you. Stop believing the lie that miracles were only for the apostolic age. The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, and he wants to manifest his glory through your life today. Here’s what separates those who walk in holy boldness from those who remain powerless. You must pay the price and not come out of divine order. You cannot have the anointing, the power of the Holy Spirit, the life of Christ. and the manifest glory except through self-abasement and complete renunciation of self, with God alone enthroned and you dead to yourself. Most Christians will never take this step because it requires complete surrender of their own will, their own plans, and their own reputation. They want God’s power, but they want to keep control. That will never work. It must be of God, and if you will only examine the conditions and act upon them, things will come off wonderfully. Beloved, the secret that separates powerless Christianity from supernatural demonstration is this: holy boldness that comes from knowing God intimately and finding your place in the Holy Spirit. You are not called to live a defeated, ordinary Christian life when the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside you. The time for excuse-making is over, The time for being satisfied with powerless religion is finished. God has made available to you the same mighty power that healed the dying, opened blind eyes, and raised the dead. But you must step out in faith and operate in the holy boldness that comes from knowing your God. Living in the Holy Spirit means you are in a place where God can manifest any gift at any moment that it is needed. You can live in this glorious place, where it is heaven to live, heaven to eat, heaven to sleep, heaven all the time. When actual heaven comes, it will only be more fullness, for the kingdom of heaven is already within. The question is not whether God’s power is available. The question is whether you will step out of your comfort zone and into the realm of holy boldness, where the impossible becomes possible. Let us pray. Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before You hungry for the demonstration of Your mighty power through our lives. We refuse to be satisfied with powerless Christianity any longer. Holy Spirit, baptize us afresh with Your fire, and fill us with holy boldness that comes from knowing You intimately. Break off every fear, every doubt, every excuse that has kept us from stepping out in faith. We declare that we will find our place in you and operate in the supernatural gifts you’ve given us. Give us divine opportunities to pray for the sick, cast out demons, and demonstrate your kingdom with signs and wonders. Let your glory be manifested through us as we die to self and live only for you. We refuse spiritual mediocrity and choose to walk in the fullness of Pentecostal power. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
