Why must a not-yet believer be born again? Why must he be born from above? Why must there be a regeneration of the spirit?
The word regeneration means new birth by the grace of God; that change by which the will and natural enmity of man to God and his law are subdued, and a principle of supreme love to God and his New Covenant law, or holy affections, are implanted in the spirit.
Titus 3: 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Our spirit is like a womb, and when we are born again, the seed of God is conceived in our spirit, that seed is the DNA of God, Christ born in us, the living Word.
Unfortunately, during the charismatic move of God, “where Christians were filled with the Spirit”, they started teaching that our spirit was perfect, which most believers believe.
But before these men of God like John G Lake, E.W. Kenyon, Watchman knee and others did not believe our spirit was perfect, but must be built up, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
The fact is that our spirit is not perfect, but the seed of God conceived in it is perfect. This is Christ in us and when our spirit is active and joins itself with Christ, it becomes one spirit, there is that divine connection, the communion where the flow of God’s life in us can flow into our soul (mind) and renew it.

The word joined in all the bible translations is a bad translation, it is not in the past tense but the present continuous tense. It is something we must do all the time. The best way to join your spirit to the Lord is by speaking in tongues a lot, because we immediately locate our spirit, because our spirit speaks. We must learn how to impart the Spirit of God in our words. Most Christians speak from their soul, which can give spiritual substance which the enemy can use. The words we speak give substance in the spiritual realm. When we speak the word of God, angels harken to it, when we speak things which are negative it gives the enemy substance in the realm of the spirit, for them to feed on, and work with.
When we are born again Christ was conceived in our spirit, Jesus is reproducing Himself in us. But the Christ in us is just a baby and must grow to full maturity.
This is why we must understand the parable of the Sower, if we do not, we will not be able to understand the rest of Jesus’s parables.
Christ in us is synonymous with the Living Word or the seed being sown in our heart. The heart speaks of the soul, but the hidden man of the heart is our spirit, and this is where the Word of God takes root or is conceived, and then we have to deal with the other things in our heart, that choke the word and hinder the Word or Christ growing to full maturity. God spoke our spirit into existence back in eternity before he created the heavens and the earth. Then we were chosen in Christ and sent to the earth. Our spirit was alive coming from heaven into the womb of our mother, and when we are born into the natural realm or time realm, our spirit will soon fall asleep, because it is encased in a soul and body that is fallen, the offspring of Adam and Eve.
My spirit was very alive to God, until about the age of seven, and then I lost my awareness of the spirit realm. As I grew up in the world in my teen age years, I no longer believed in God, until at 19 years of age I was stabbed and lost 2/3 rds. of my blood, and cried out to God not to let me die and forgave the person who stabbed me. Then the Father started drawing me and I got born again at the age of 23.
Our spirit was born into this world alive to God, that is why Jesus said let the little children come unto me for such is the kingdom of God. (Matthew 19:14)
13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.
Our spirit still exists but it falls asleep unless we get born again when we are old enough to understand what it means. Our spirit is not separated from God, he is everywhere, in hades or what Christians call hell, he is even inside every person, but they cannot commune with Him so in this sense their spirit is dead, because we cannot have a two way conversation with him, unless we are born again and filled with the Spirit.
Until our spirit is born again it cannot bring our soul and body into subject to it.
